Qualifications

• Must have a high school diploma or equivalent and meet one of the following.
• Hold a Child Development Associate (CDA) Credential; or
• Hold an Associate Degree in Birth-through Kindergarten, Child Development, Early Childhood Education, or other Early Childhood Education-related field; or
• Enrolled and working toward an Associate Degree: must have either 48 semester hours of education earned/passed, or 7 credits in at least two core subjects (English, Math, Writing) and passing Proficiency Certificate for Teacher Assistants assessment test scores (WorkKeys).

Responsibilities

• Assist the classroom teacher with students individually, in small groups, or in large groups.
• Reinforce learning and devise strategies based on students’ needs and abilities.
• Read to students, supervise materials, and support classroom activities.
• Support behavior management and communicate with parents as directed by the teacher.
• Supervise students during meals, bus duty, drills, and field trips.
• May substitute as needed and assist the nurse or other staff as required.
