Job summary

Chapel Hill-Carrboro City Schools is seeking a Pre-K Teacher Assistant to support classroom instruction in Headstart/Pre-K. The role focuses on aiding the teacher, managing groups, and maintaining a positive, organized learning environment.

Responsibilities include assisting with materials, behavior management, communicating with families, supervising students during various activities, and performing clerical tasks as needed.

Qualifications

• Must have 48 semester hours of education earned/passed.
• Or 7 hours in core area with WorkKeys scores in Reading, Writing, and Mathematics.
• Or 96 Contact Hours with WorkKeys in Reading, Writing, and Mathematics.
• High School Diploma/GED required.
• Associate's Degree preferred.

Responsibilities

• Assists the classroom teacher by working with individual students, small groups or large groups.
• Reinforces learning and devises strategies based on student needs and abilities.
• Guides independent study, reads to students, and listens to them read.
• Distributes and collects workbooks, papers and other instructional materials.
• Corrects assignments and supervises tests and make-up work.
• Assists with behavior management per school policies and expectations.
• Keeps the supervising teacher informed of any problems or special information about a student.
• Communicates with parents as directed by the teacher, maintaining confidentiality.
• Supervises students at meals, on bus duty, drills, field trips, and play periods.
• Relieves the teacher for conferences and emergencies as required.
• May substitute as needed and serve as source of information for substitutes.
• Performs classroom health procedures under the nurse's supervision.
• Performs clerical duties: attendance, money collection, bulletin boards, equipment care.
• Participates in in-service training and maintains high ethical standards.
• May substitute as a school crossing guard and perform other duties as assigned.
