As Pre-Construction managers, we are the nationwide team responsible for planning the construction of Amazon’s new sites. We are on the forefront of creating and delivering the most innovative products to our customers; and are known for innovating the possibilities of cloud computing.

As a Pre-Construction Manager, you will support the development and implementation of a Pre-Construction program across the nation over multiple campuses. This role will serve as the primary liaison between Real Estate, Design Engineering, Due Diligence, and other critical partner teams from initial planning through design development, providing schedule forecasting, construction budgeting, and constructability guidance. We seek candidates with extensive practical construction experience, including bidding, contracting, construction documents, industry infrastructure, design, and engineering.

Key job responsibilities
  • Foundational knowledge of critical data center equipment (Generators, Uninterruptible Power Supplies, Switchgear, Transformers, Power Feeders & Busduct, Chillers, Plumbing, Fire Detection/Suppression, Air Handling Units, Computer Room Air Handling/Conditioning Units).
  • Perform constructability reviews of critical scopes related to new data center construction and drive improvements in baseline plans.
  • Perform build phasing evaluations in civil, structural, electrical fields for potential sites.
  • Determine and communicate site requirements impacting schedule, cost, delivery, and integration with surrounding properties.
  • Conduct negotiations with land sellers, developers, and general contractors; evaluate bids, proposals, and scoping documents with accuracy.
  • Manage GC and third-party vendors delivering preconstruction services during the design phase.
  • Define construction scopes and request proposals from General Contractors; review bid summaries, schedules, milestones, and pricing; evaluate subcontractor bids.
  • Support issuance of contracting documents (Work Orders, Purchase Orders, Work Letters).
  • Develop handoff documentation for Construction Manager partners.
  • Share lessons learned to promote continuous improvement across the program.
  • Ability to travel approximately 25% of the time.

About The Team

AMER Precon within the AMER DCCD org is a nationwide team of construction experts dedicated to building the infrastructure that powers the cloud. We collaborate with internal teams from site pursuit to construction, focusing on continuous improvement, high standards, and stakeholder trust.

AWS Infrastructure Services manages the design, planning, delivery, and operation of AWS’s global infrastructure, supporting data centers, servers, storage, networking, power, and cooling. We tackle complex problems involving supply chain variables, working with a diverse team of engineers, supply chain specialists, security experts, and operations managers to deliver safe, secure, and cost-effective solutions.

Basic Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Construction Management, Architecture, Civil, Structural, Mechanical, or Electrical Engineering or related STEM field.
  • At least 5 years of experience in data center construction, mission-critical facilities, or equivalent industrial projects.
  • Experience in end-to-end construction project delivery.
  • Ability to develop new concepts and processes from exploration through deployment.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Advanced degree such as a Master of Science in Engineering, Construction Management, or related discipline.
  • Certifications like PE, Licensed Architect, or CCM.
  • Over 8 years of experience in designing or constructing data centers or large-scale infrastructure.
  • Experience managing large infrastructure projects with multiple vendors.
  • Knowledge of building codes and regulations (Life Safety, IBC, NFPA, NEC, OSHA).
  • Experience with controls, commissioning, power management, and business case analysis for leadership.
