Job summary

Sterling Construction Company, Inc. in San Antonio, TX is offering a student internship focused on pre-construction and estimating. You will assist with quantity takeoffs, bid preparation, and reviewing project documents to learn how costs are developed.

Qualifications

• Currently a Junior or Senior pursuing a construction-related degree
• Interest in heavy civil construction, estimating, or pre-construction
• Basic understanding of construction plans and terminology helpful but not required
• Exposure to CAD/BIM/Excel/estimating software is a plus
• Comfortable working with numbers and learning quantity takeoffs
• Detail-oriented and organized
• Strong communication skills
• Dependable with a strong work ethic
• Eager to ask questions and take on increasing responsibility

Responsibilities

• Assist the estimating team with quantity takeoffs and bid preparation
• Learn how to read and interpret construction plans, drawings, and specifications
• Assist with reviewing bid documents and project requirements
• Help gather and organize subcontractor and supplier pricing
• Support estimators with cost information and bid documentation
• Gain exposure to CAD, BIM, and estimating software used by our team
• Assist with preparing drawings, layouts, reports, and other supporting materials
• Participate in pre-bid meetings and project discussions when appropriate
• Learn how estimators evaluate project scope, quantities, costs, and potential risks
• Work with experienced construction professionals and gain exposure to the full pre-construction process
