Job summary

Clearway Energy Group seeks an Associate, Environmental Permitting to join our Development team in San Francisco, CA. You will support discretionary permitting and environmental surveys for our 30 GW solar, wind, and storage project pipeline, coordinating with permitting managers and internal teams.

You will work cross-functionally with engineering, real estate, and compliance, coordinating with external consultants and agencies to ensure timely entitlements and approvals.

Qualifications

• 3+ years of environmental consulting and/or energy/utility experience.
• Clear understanding of discretionary permit processes and triggers.
• Familiarity with CEQA/NEPA/SEPA or similar environmental review processes.
• Experience acquiring land use permits and environmental approvals.
• Knowledge of federal permit processes including Section 106 NHPA, ESA, and Right-of-Way processes.

Responsibilities

• Contribute technical expertise for utility-scale solar, wind, and storage projects in the western US to secure discretionary entitlements and agency approvals.
• Develop strategy for discretionary permit processes and schedules with senior staff.
• Manage data collection, draft materials, and coordinate field surveys.
• Support entitlement processes with city, county, state, and federal authorities.
• Coordinate with external consultants for surveys and permit opinions.
• Review documents critical to permitting and financing success.
• Collaborate with internal teams across dispersed offices in land use permit applications.
• Support due diligence on pre-construction and permit implications, ESAs, and wetland delineations.
• Review zoning, floodplain, and other site-specific considerations to support early development.
• Assist in developing approaches to minimize permitting risks and optimize schedules.
