Job summary

Qualus Corporation is seeking a Field Engineering professional in Wisconsin to lead complex electrical utility projects, focusing on transmission and distribution equipment, relay protection upgrades, and pre-commissioning activities. You will manage day-to-day project execution and act as the principal client interface from initial assessments to managing communications and compliance.

Qualifications

  • Associate degree or commensurate experience to be classified as a technician.
  • Bachelor's in electrical engineering or Electrical Engineering Technology preferred.
  • Experience with power systems, relays, and protection coordination preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate and submit planned outage requests per outage plans and sequencing.
  • Serve as primary client interface from assessment to proposals and communications.
  • Review drawings, BOMs, and procure P&C equipment for substation installations.
  • Develop wiring sheets, termination docs, and as-built records.
  • Provide field leadership to wiremen during construction and pre-commissioning.
  • Verify protection schemes and relay coordination for proper tripping.
  • Drive execution, coordinate resources, schedules, and procurement.
  • Collaborate with engineering and operations to resolve installation issues prior to commissioning.
  • Perform PT/CCVT inspections, testing, and checkout.

Position Overview

Power your future with Qualusin our Field Engineering department as aPre-Commissioning Professional!We'relooking for ahands-onindividualtolead complex electrical utility projects. You'llmanage the day-to-day execution of projects focusing on transmission, distribution equipment, and relay protection upgrades, ensuring they'redelivered efficiently and to the highest standards. This role requires being the primary client interface, frominitialassessments and proposals to managing all communication and ensuring project compliance.

Responsibilities
  • Coordinate andsubmitplanned outage requestsin accordance withapproved outage coordination plans and project sequencing requirements.
  • Act as the primary client interface, frominitialassessment and qualification of project opportunities tohandlingall correspondence, inquiries, and submittals. This includes conducting site walkthroughs to define scope and revisions andassistingwith or generating proposals.
  • Review construction drawings, bills of material (BOMs), and project documentation toprocureProtection & Control (P&C) equipment for installation within substation control houses.
  • Develop and maintainwiring sheets, termination documentation, and as-built records for protection and control systems.
  • Provide field leadership and technical direction to wiremen and installation personnel during construction and pre-commissioning activities.
  • Verify protection schemes and zones of protection to ensure proper relay coordination and equipment tripping functionsin accordance withsystem design.
  • Drive project execution and resource coordination bymaintainingand overseeing schedules, collaborating with the Operations Team to secure necessary equipment and labor, andassistingwith onsite work and material procurement as needed.
  • Coordinate with engineering, construction, testing, and operations personnel toidentifyand resolve installation and functional issues prior to commissioning.
  • Perform PT/CCVT secondary circuit inspections, testing, and checkout to verify proper installation and functionality.
Minimum Qualifications
  • 0-2yearsof relevant post education experience in an electrical engineering capacity, withexperienceleading large complex projects in the power industry preferred.
  • Associate’s degree from a technical or trade school, orcommensurateworking experience to be classified as aTechnician.
  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering(BSEE) or Electrical Engineering Technology (BSET)from an ABET university,with an emphasis on power systems preferred,to be classified as an Engineer.
  • Navy Nuclear experience (attending “A” school), experience as an EWS (Engineering Watch Supervisor) or PPWS (Propulsion Plant Watch Supervisor), or experience as an Electricians Mate or Electronics Technician accepted in lieu ofAS or BSdegree.
  • Experience in reading and interpreting One Line, AC & DC Elementary and Wiring diagrams
  • Possesses a strong work ethic, capable of independently resolving project issues. Strives for individual excellence by seeking challenges and self-development,demonstratinghigh levelsofexpertise, and showing commitment, self-confidence, and integrity
  • Ability to communicate effectively in English (inclusive of reading and writing) due to the nature of safety-related materials, documentation, and interactions with clients.
