Job summary

Surgery Partners, Inc. is seeking a Pre-Admission Testing Registered Nurse to obtain preop health histories and prepare patients for scheduled surgery.

You will work closely with anesthesia and surgical teams to ensure all clinical and administrative requirements are met. Responsibilities include conducting preoperative interviews, educating patients on protocols, documenting in the EHR, administering medications, and assisting with post-operative care and discharge planning.

Qualifications

  • Obtain preoperative health histories and assess needs.
  • Educate patients on protocols and expectations.
  • Collaborate with surgeons and anesthesia team to optimize care.
  • Verify consents and reconcile medications in the EHR.
  • Deliver nursing care pre- and post-operatively.
  • Administer medications as ordered.
  • Discharge patients according to policy.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct comprehensive pre-operative interviews to collect medical histories and medication lists.
  • Provide pre-surgical education on protocols (NPO, hold meds) and care plans.
  • Coordinate with surgeons, anesthesiologists and physicians to ensure optimization.
  • Verify surgical consents and medication reconciliation in the EHR.
  • Administer treatments and care as ordered and discharge per policy.

Job description

Monday - Friday: 5 days a week

8am - 430pm (8 hours a day)

Preop phone calls for surgical patients.

General Summary Of Duties

Obtaining a preop health history and pertinent information from patients to make sure they are properly evaluated prior to surgery. Works closely with other team members and anesthesia.

A Pre-Admission Testing (PAT) Registered Nurse evaluates and prepares patients for scheduled surgical or procedural interventions. They conduct physical assessments, review medical histories. The RN educates patients and ensures all clinical and administrative requirements are met to prevent day-of-surgery delays. Periodically this role will work in Pre OP/Recovery to support team and patient care.

Essential Functions Pat Rn
  • Patient Assessment: Conduct comprehensive pre-operative phone interviews to collect medical histories, medication lists, and identify potential surgical or anesthesia risks
  • Pre-Op Education: Teach patients about pre-surgical protocols (such as NPO status, which medications to hold) what to expect during their visit, and basic post-operative care plans
  • Collaborate closely with surgeons, anesthesiologist, and physicians to ensure patients are medical optimized and that all necessary clearances are in the chart.
  • Verify surgical consents, medical records and medication reconciliation in the EHR system prior to procedure date
  • Assesses, develops and implements total nursing care for the pre-operative and post-operative patients
  • Administer medications and treatments ordered by the physician.
  • Cares and discharges pre-operative patients according to facility policies
