Job summary

The City of Ann Arbor is seeking PSS Cadets to hire on a limited-term basis with the goal of attending a police academy and becoming Ann Arbor Police Officers upon successful completion. Cadets will gain hands-on experience at the front desk and perform basic investigative tasks while preparing for academy entry.

Selected candidates undergo up to 12 months of evaluation, interact with the public, and may advance to an academy with tuition covered by the City.

Qualifications

• Must be a U.S. Citizen.
• If hired, candidate must be 21 years or older at the start of the FTO program (10 months from date of hire).
• 45 credit hours from an accredited college.
• LEIN Certification may be required or obtained to perform duties.
• CPR and First Aid Certification may be required or obtained to perform duties.

Responsibilities

• Interact with the public at the Police front desk.
• Conduct preliminary investigations for reports.
• Complete traffic crash reports and administer preliminary breath tests.
• Fingerprint and photograph arrestees/defendants for court.
• Attend a regional police academy after assimilation period and progress through FTO.
