Job summary

The City of Lansing’s Police Department invites applications for enthusiastic part-time Police Cadets to join as contract employees. This role provides exposure to law enforcement activities and the opportunity to learn department rules, regulations, and methods, with the potential sponsorship for further academy training.

Candidates must be 17–25, or 16 with 17 at the time of offer, and meet education requirements including HS diploma or GED and ongoing criminal justice studies.

Qualifications

• Minimum 16–32 hours per week, nights/weekends/holidays.
• High School Diploma or GED required.
• Ages 17–25 (16 may apply but must be 17 at offer).
• Recent college grad or current student taking 12 sem/18 qtr units toward criminal justice degree or higher.

Responsibilities

• Interact with the public in a respectful manner.
• Learn and apply police department rules and laws.
• Enter reports and access records using a computer.
