Company/Agency: Partnership for Children & Youth

The Practice Director will lead PCY’s practice and research agenda, which includes technical assistance and training, and research and documentation in these key priority areas: all state and federal publicly funded afterschool and summer programs; Universal Pre-Kindergarten and expanded learning integration, blending and braiding funding sources, older youth expanded learning, and other whole child initiatives. This position provides vision and leadership around goals, strategies, and continuous improvement. This position works collaboratively with policy and communications to ensure cohesion between teams and goals. This position is part of the Leadership Team supporting the vision and direction of the organization.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

The Practice Director will:

Lead PCY’s practice and research agenda:

Oversee the practice agenda for the organization, which includes technical assistance, research, and documentation in content areas of focus.

Collaborate with staff to set the practice vision and programmatic priorities.

Drive execution of projects including development and implementation of workplans, strategies, and budget.

Design and implement continuous learning and evaluation of practice offerings through data collection, impact measurement, and debrief processes.

Identify and manage partners and consultants to support execution of research and practice workplans.

Research and documentation:

Develop and drive research projects, including collecting stories and best practices, to inform practice and technical assistance offerings.

Identify and conduct interviews, literature reviews, and other original qualitative and quantitative research.

Analyze and synthesize data.

Write reports, briefs, and other communications materials.

Technical assistance:

Oversee delivery of technical assistance and related capacity-building supports to local education agencies (LEAs), community-based organizations (CBOs), and other stakeholders.

Plan, facilitate, and implement webinars, trainings, and workshops (live and virtual).

Provide direct 1:1 consulting and coaching to LEA, CBO, and other stakeholder clients in a range of positions (program managers and directors, district and county leadership, etc.).

Develop resources and tools including videos, slide decks, and other communications materials that promote promising practices, innovations, and implementation models.

Drive outreach, contract development, and execution of fee-for-service projects.

Present at statewide and national conferences, meetings, and events.

Partnership development and management:

Identify partnership opportunities and cultivate relationships with key organizations, entities, and individuals.

Communicate with, prepare, and coordinate with field experts and practitioners.

Participate in relevant and strategic workgroups, networks, and coalitions.

Internal collaboration and leadership:

Work with the Director of Communications and Director of Policy to ensure that policy and communications priorities and actions are linked to program needs.

Support organizational development processes, including theory of change, strategic planning, and budgeting.

Participate on the Leadership Team.

Work with Co-CEOs to support fundraising efforts for PCY initiatives.

Assist with additional activities, special projects, and other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:
The successful candidate will be adaptable, a demonstrated problem solver, and sound decision-maker. Their work will be driven by strategic thinking and executed with creativity and efficiency. They will have excellent interpersonal skills, patience, and a commitment to treating others with respect. Specific skills and experience include:

Minimum of seven years experience developing and managing projects including, but not limited to, research and documentation, program implementation and/or technical assistance in expanded learning and/or related field in public education.

Strong staff supervision skills, including experience supervising staff and consultants, and promoting collaboration and maintaining momentum towards shared goals.

Excellent oral and written communications skills.

Strong design and facilitation experience.

Ability to work with and influence a variety of professionals in the field of education and youth development.

Understanding of state education structures - including both expanded learning and the K-12 systems in California - and the link between state policy/funding and local program operations.

Strong organizational skills and ability to handle multiple projects and assignments in a fast-paced environment.

Willingness to travel for meetings and events.

Commitment to the values and mission of PCY.
