Practice Analyst – Role Overview
O’Melveny is seeking a Practice Analyst to support the firm’s legal project management efforts. The role focuses on budget management, outside counsel guideline compliance, pricing, and monitoring key performance indicators for the Litigation and Corporate Departments.
Location & Compensation
Office: Newport Beach, CA (East Coast or Southern California). Salary range: $85,000 – $105,000 (CA/NYC/DC). Compensation is dependent on experience, qualifications, and location.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
- Track performance against budgets, including weekly client reporting on changes in scope, accruals, and other performance metrics.
- Assist in the preparation of work plans and evaluate resources for matter teams.
- Create financial reports for matter teams relating to attorney utilization, client and matter profitability.
- Monitor progress against economic targets and goals, initiating follow-up as needed.
- Analyze client performance data to identify opportunities for improvement and growth.
- Assess the profitability of both traditional hourly and alternative fee arrangements.
- Perform ad hoc projects and analyses as directed by the Practice Managers.
- Support strategic initiatives and day-to-day operations of the Litigation and Corporate Departments.
Knowledge, Skills & Experience
- Excellent analytical and problem‑solving skills with the ability to think quickly in a fast‑paced environment.
- Strong oral and written communication skills and the ability to collaborate with Finance, Pricing/Strategic Analytics, and Client Development teams.
- Experience with project management.
- Highly organized, able to multi‑task, manage time well, and work independently.
- Superior attention to detail and pride in high‑quality deliverables.
- Motivation to learn continuously and improve results.
- Proficiency with Excel, PowerPoint, MS Word, and Outlook; database experience is a plus.
- Five years of experience in practice management, financial analysis, or related discipline, preferably in a law firm or professional services environment.
- Bachelor’s degree, preferably in Business, Economics, Finance, or Accounting.
