The Michigan Department of Corrections seeks a Licensed Practical Nurse E9 to provide comprehensive nursing care for maximum security prisoners. The Licensed Practical Nurse E9 provides a full range of nursing care under the supervision of a Registered Nurse. Responsibilities include providing total patient care, meeting hygiene needs, assisting with activities of daily living, and ambulation. The LPN assesses patients within their scope of practice, administers medications and treatments, and communicates patient condition changes to the RN. This role involves working exclusively with maximum security prisoners and is subject to random drug and alcohol screening.

Possession of a certificate from a practical nursing education program accepted for licensure by the Michigan Board of Nursing.
No specific experience is required.

Applicants with felony convictions may be screened out per Public Act 191 of 2017. Those with misdemeanor or felony convictions are ineligible until completing their sentences, including parole or probation.
New hires and returning employees after more than two years will complete Non-Custody New Employee Training (NCNET), consisting of 40 or 80 hours of initial in-person training, plus online training.
