Job summary

Elayn Hunt Correctional Center in St. Gabriel, LA seeks a motivated Licensed Practical Nurse to join the Nursing Department. The LPN will provide direct patient care, monitor health conditions, administer medications, and support a multidisciplinary team within a secure correctional setting.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Provide direct patient care under RN or senior LPN guidance
• Monitor patients and promptly report changes to the healthcare team
• Collect specimens, perform diagnostic tests, record vitals accurately
• Administer medications and treatments per protocol and document care
• Participate in shift handovers to ensure continuity of care
• Assist with admissions, transfers and discharges, maintaining safety and efficiency
• Respond to emergencies, including CPR and first aid
• Manage inventory and restock medications and equipment as needed

Possession of a current Louisiana Practical Nurse license, a temporary permit, or a multi-state license issued by a Nursing Licensure Compact (NLC/eNLC) state.

Job Duties

• Provide direct patient care, including comfort, hygiene, safety, nutrition, and overall well-being, under RN or senior LPN guidance.

• Monitor and assess patients,promptlyreportingchangesinphysicalormentalstatustothehealthcareteam.

• Collectspecimens,performdiagnostictests,andaccuratelyrecordvital signs (temperature,pulse,respiration,bloodpressure).

Position-Specific Details

Appointment Type:PROBATION, or PROMOTION OF A PERMANENT, CLASSIFIED LOUISIANA STATE EMPLOYEE

• Current permanent status classified LA State employees may be required to accept a probational appointment if accepted.
• An employee selected for a promotion may be required to serve a trial detail prior to being permanently promoted.
• This posting may also be used to fill a vacancy as a temporary job appointment. If filled as a temporary job appointment, should a permanent position become available, the employee may be converted to a probational appointment.

Compensation:This position has a Special Entrance Rate (SER)at each level.However, the salary offered will be determinedbased on qualifications and experience.

• Licensed Practical Nurse 1 has an SER of$19.48 per hour
• Licensed Practical Nurse 2 has an SER of $20.84 per hour
• Licensed Practical Nurse 3 has an SER of$22.30 per hour

This position also offers premium pay at a rate of $5.00 per hourfor each hour worked, in addition to regular pay.
