Summary

The Cincinnati - OH VA Medical Center is seeking 1 Licensed Practical Nurse to work in the Community Living Center. The LPN performs assigned duties to promote quality healthcare, outstanding customer service, and maintain an environment dedicated to serving Veterans. The LPN works under the guidance of the Nurse Manager or designee and may assist in all aspects of Community Living Center services.

Qualifications

Applicants pending completion of educational or certification/licensure requirements may be considered tentatively but cannot be hired until all requirements are met.

Basic Requirements:

• United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when qualified citizens are unavailable, per VA Policy.
• English Language Proficiency: Must be proficient in written and spoken English as per 38 U.S.C. 7402(d).
• Education: Graduate of a school of practical or vocational nursing approved by the appropriate State agency or accredited by the NLNAC at the time of completion. Exceptions include military healthcare education or training accepted by the licensing body, or a license granted without graduation from an approved school with at least one year of successful practice.
• Licensure: Active, full, current, and unrestricted licensure as a Graduate Licensed Practical or Vocational Nurse in a U.S. State, Territory, Commonwealth, or the District of Columbia.

Grade Determinations:

Qualifications must demonstrate competence for each grade:

• GS-3: None beyond basic requirements.
• GS-4: Six months of qualifying experience or graduation from an approved school with at least one year of relevant experience.
• GS-5: One year of experience at GS-4 level or equivalent, with demonstrated knowledge to provide a full range of practical nursing care, and ability to serve as a responsible team member, educate patients, and recognize emergency situations.
• GS-6: One additional year of experience at GS-5 level, proficient in providing care, recognizing urgent situations, and performing support duties for complex procedures.

Physical and Other Requirements:

Visual acuity, hearing, manual dexterity, and ability to perform prolonged walking, standing, stooping, etc., are required. Exposure to infected patients and contaminated materials may occur, requiring protective clothing. Ability to work effectively in stressful situations is essential.
