Registered Nurse (RN-CNI), CVICU, Flex Shift, ONA (Finance)

UC Health is hiring a full-time Registered Nurse (RN-CNI) for CVICU for the flex shift at University of Cincinnati Medical Center.

The Registered Nurse (RN-CNI) will support the Medical Center's 24-bed CVICU, delivering high-quality care to patients based on assessed needs, established standards of care, and according to policy and procedures.

The RN-CNI holds a current state license to practice nursing. Responsibilities include assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating patient care based on biological, physical, behavioral, social, and nursing sciences, tailored to cultural and age-specific needs.

  • Serve a complex cardiac patient population undergoing surgeries such as CABG, valvuloplasty, valve replacement, heart transplant, VAD implantation, and thoracic procedures like VATS and thoracotomies. Non-surgical care includes ECMO, post-arrest hypothermia, and management of acute with mechanical support and heart failure.
  • Staffing 1:1 for post-op open heart procedures (balloon pump, CRRT, Therapeutic Hypothermia)
  • Collect basic data, follow protocols, and match formal knowledge with clinical events to make decisions.
  • Prepare, implement, evaluate, revise, and coordinate interdisciplinary care plans collaboratively with team members and families.
  • Communicate care plans effectively and establish care priorities based on assessments.
  • Provide clear instructions to patients and involve families in care processes.
  • Respond appropriately to behavioral, psychological, or cultural patient needs.
  • Demonstrate critical thinking, accountability, flexibility, and teamwork.
  • Accurately document nursing care and evaluations per hospital policy.
  • Serve as a resource and mentor for new staff and float personnel.
  • Commit to personal and professional development and contribute to team growth.
