Job summary

Pratt & Whitney seeks an experienced MPE Program Lead to drive materials design and development for missile hardware. You will coordinate MPE resources, support design reviews, and ensure timely technical execution across programs onsite in Tucson, AZ.

Ideal candidates have a university degree with extensive materials engineering experience, including participation in gate reviews and MRB/PCB processes, plus strong writing and presentation skills. Security clearance is required.

Qualifications

  • University Degree or equivalent experience.
  • Minimum 8 years of relevant experience, or Advanced Degree with minimum 5 years experience.
  • Experience solving materials problems (process improvements or material selection or coatings).
  • Experience with mechanical test methods (tensile, compression, lap shear, hardness, etc.) and chemical analysis methods (FT-IR, DMA, TMA, GC).
  • Bachelor’s degree in STEM preferred; 10 years in materials problem solving or production engineering.
  • Experience with Gate Reviews, PDM, assembly drawings, material specifications, and military specifications.
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, and presentation skills; strong documentation and technical writing.
  • Proficient in MS Word, MS Excel, and MS PowerPoint.

Responsibilities

  • Provide MPE support for program review boards (CCB, MRB, PCB, ERB, PMCB).
  • Ensure peer reviews and MPE positions align with program deliverables.
  • Manage workload to meet schedule needs across programs.
  • Lead trade studies on materials, properties, and processes; benchmark technologies.
  • Ensure labor costs and completion schedules meet commitments.
  • Resolve technical and operational problems.
  • Mentor early career engineers and participate in failure investigations.
  • Support proposals that include MPE tasks and present data to large audiences.

The Materials & Process Engineering (MPE) Department, which functions within Hardware Engineering, is looking for a MPE Program Lead engineer to participate as a member of the Materials Design and Development Section. The ideal candidate will be accountable for leveraging Hardware Engineering and MPE disciplines for technical execution of the design, development, and manufacturing of missile hardware. The MPE Program Lead is responsible for supporting all program milestones and providing materials engineering technical execution to the committed production schedule and cost. In addition, the MPE Program Lead is responsible for coordinating MPE resources to effectively meet program requirements. The MPE Program Lead will provide MPE support to programs design reviews, gate reviews, Material Review Board, Change Control Board, Process Change Board, and engineering peer reviews. Responsible for the accuracy of technical output of each assignment, including the MPE positions based on data and analyses. Interface with other organizations across the Raytheon Enterprise such as Common Electronic Products, Mission Assurance & Quality, Operations, Reliability, and Supply Chain. Additional experience with Failure Review Boards and/or failure analysis is also helpful.

What You Will Do
  • Provide MPE support for Program’s review board meetings (i.e., CCB, MRB, PCB, ERB, PMCB)
  • Ensure peer reviews are conducted and MPE position aligned with Program deliverable and “One Voice” prior to report distribution
  • Manage workload to ensure that programs and MPE team receive the required support consistent with schedule needs
  • Lead the Program Team in the following activities: The development of trade studies to identify appropriate materials, material properties, and processes; Benchmark material technologies and methods of materials testing; Document justifications for material choices
  • Ensure labor costs and estimated completion schedules provided by MPE are negotiated, understood and meet product/program commitments
  • Resolution of technical and operational problems
  • Mentor and/or train early career engineers
  • Participate on Failure Investigation Teams to provide technical support
  • Support proposal efforts that include MPE tasks.
  • Be able to present technical position or data results summary to large technical audience (example: MMSTN, TIG, or ERB)

You Must Have Typically requires A University Degree or equivalent experience and minimum 8 years prior relevant experience, or An Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 5 years experience Experience in materials problem solving (i.e. process improvements or choosing alternate material or protective coatings to address specific material issues) Experience with mechanical test methods (i.e. tensile, compression, lap shear, hardness, lap shear, viscosity) and/or chemical analysis methods ( FT-IR spectroscope, cure rate of adhesives, DMA, TMA, Gas Chromatography, etc...). Qualifications We Prefer Bachelor's degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) 10 years of experience in materials problem solving, materials characterization, or production engineering and competency with the use and application of technical standards, principles, theories, concepts and techniques Working experience with program Gate Reviews, PDM, assembly drawings, material specifications and military specifications Excellent interpersonal, communication, and presentation skills Excellent documentation and technical writing skills Ability to efficiently use MS Word, MS Excel, and MS Powerpoint Demonstrated ability to work effectively as part of a team Extensive experience in program system processes related to Material Review Boards, Material and Process Change Boards, Risk Boards, Engineering Review Boards Broad knowledge of materials science with ability to collaborate with SMEs Make Materials Engineering decisions for the program based on solid facts and data.

The salary range for this role is 107,500 USD - 204,500 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels.
