Job Summary

Paradise Valley Community College (PVCC) is seeking a Director of Marketing and Communications who provides strategic leadership for the college's marketing, communications, public relations, and branding efforts to advance institutional priorities, enhance student recruitment and engagement, and strengthen community awareness.

This position develops and implements integrated marketing and communications strategies across multiple platforms; oversees brand management, content development, media relations, crisis communications, and executive messaging; and leads a high-performing marketing team and external partners.

The Director collaborates with college leadership and Maricopa Community Colleges District Marketing & Communications to ensure consistent messaging, data-informed decision-making, and alignment with district initiatives. The position also manages budgets, evaluates program effectiveness through analytics and performance metrics, and fosters continuous improvement to support the college's mission and strategic goals.

Essential Functions

25% Champion and scale the development and ongoing evolution of PVCC's brand strategy to ensure alignment with institutional priorities and student needs. Develop and execute integrated marketing campaigns to build brand awareness, recruit students, and re-engage students. Serve as the primary steward of the PVCC brand, ensuring a consistent brand voice, visual identity, and message across all platforms.

Lead the development of content and content strategies that advance PVCC's priorities and goals. Oversee the creation of content across print, digital, video, social media, presentations, advertising, and executive communications. Collaborate with college leadership, stakeholders, and Maricopa Community Colleges District Marketing & Communications to ensure content is clear, consistent, aligned with brand standards, and effectively reaches key audiences. Create a culture of data-driven, high-impact marketing and communications practices. Manages all data analytics related to marketing and communications, including Google, social media, and digital advertising analytics. Monitor campaign effectiveness to identify trends, and inform strategic decision-making while providing insights and recommendations that support continuous improvement and advance PVCC's priorities and goals.

Analyzes and resolves complex program issues; directs and oversees the resolution of escalated issues and customer concerns; and consults with business partners to streamline processes and achieve successful program outcomes. Reviews and analyzes metrics and performance measures; recommends adjustments to achieve desired campaign goals.

20% Guide and inspire the college's marketing and communications team, responsible for comprehensive public relations, marketing, and internal/external communications. Oversee the creation and execution of strategic communication plans, modern advertising initiatives, and cross-channel brand campaigns.

Direct the creative development of high-quality print, digital, web, video and social media content to ensure a cohesive brand voice.

Supervise, mentor, and evaluate internal marketing staff and external agency partners/contractors.

Oversee communication efforts across the college.

Provides oversight and directs the planning and implementation of media relations, public information, marketing and communications; develops public relations and marketing programs, projects and initiatives. Ensures compliance with applicable regulations, policies, requirements and/or standards. Oversees process research and implements industry standards, trends, best practices and emerging technologies for the work unit.

Recruits and manages third party design firms as approved as well as internal design resources; provides leadership and direction in establishing design projects and services.

20% Lead the college's public relations and communications efforts to strengthen PVCC's visibility, increase community awareness, and protect the college's reputation. Develop strategic communications, media relations, and executive messaging while serving as a communications advisor to college leadership on messaging, public perception, and emerging issues. Collaborate with Maricopa Community Colleges District Marketing & Communications to ensure alignment with District priorities and crisis communication efforts. Support and coordinate college-level communication strategies, ensuring timely, accurate, and consistent messaging for internal and external audiences.

Oversees and directs emergency communication, crisis management and communication risk mitigation.

Performs fact-finding and troubleshooting activities in areas of special interest to the College President; researches and writes speeches, messages, programs, and materials for the College President or College for public dissemination.

20% Cultivates relationships with key customers/clients; informs and consults with executive leadership regarding strategy, outcomes, trends, new product development and continuous improvement. Develops and drives program goals, objectives and overall long-term strategy; plans, coordinates, administers and evaluates programs and services. Prioritizes projects and initiatives in alignment with organizational objectives. Collaborates with all college areas to develop clear communication and promotional strategies; informs and consults with executive leadership regarding strategy, outcomes, trends and offers suggestions and input for continuous improvement. Works collaboratively with Maricopa Community College District Marketing to ensure alignment with and support of District Initiatives.

10% Manages and administers budgets and expenditures; identifies resource needs and makes recommendations. Oversees and manages budgets as assigned ensuring compliance with Maricopa and state requirements.

5% performs other related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's Degree from a regionally accredited institution in public relations, marketing, journalism or related field and five (5) years of public relations and marketing experience that includes planning, managing and implementing associated programs and marketing campaigns and two (2) years of management and supervisory experience.

An equivalent combination of the conferred degree and directly related full-time work experience as described above sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above, unless otherwise subject to any other requirements set forth in law or regulation, may be considered.

Desired Qualifications
  • 1. Master's Degree or higher in Public Relations, Marketing, Communications or other closely related field.
  • 2. Supervision experience leading a marketing team and overseeing the development and execution of the marketing strategy to include working with external contractors.
  • 3. Experience with optimizing online content through social media management, web design/content, email marketing, and digital advertising.
  • 4. Experience with managing the public relations communication in an enterprise level organization and /or public sector.
  • 5. Experience with analyzing marketing data and analytics, social media data, digital advertising analytics to enhance the colleges' marketing efforts.
  • 6. Demonstrated commitment to inclusivity in marketing messaging and efforts.
  • 7. One year of full-time relevant MCCCD experience during the previous two years.
