Job summary

KPIT in Auburn Hills, MI, is seeking an experienced Powertrain Engineer to perform e-Powertrain function analysis and decomposition for energy storage systems. You will elicit regulatory and environmental requirements, and create high-level propulsion system functional artifacts in IBM DOORS Next Gen.

The role involves identifying operating modes, documenting in DNG, and analyzing powertrain thermal performance across temperature ranges.

Qualifications

• Understanding of automotive systems including engine, transmission, 4WD, fuel and exhaust systems.
• Knowledge of electrified powertrain (ePT) and BEV architecture.
• Experience with hybrid vehicle architecture and BEV components.
• Familiarity with AC charging systems and energy flow concepts.
• Awareness of charging standards and vehicle electronics interfaces.

Responsibilities

• Perform e-Powertrain function analysis and decomposition for energy storage system.
• Elicit regulatory, environmental and electrical requirements and corporate specs.
• Create high-level propulsion system functional requirements in IBM DOORS Next Gen with classifications.
• Identify propulsion system operating modes, analyze and document in DNG.
• Analyze powertrain thermal performance and define system functions across temperature ranges.
• Support Agile processes to define RASI, deliverables, timelines and risks.
• Develop diagnostics requirements for end-of-line and in-plant energy storage subsystems.

Requirements

• Good understanding about basic automotive systems such as Engine, Transmission (Manual & Automatic), 4WD systems, Fuel systems, exhaust systems, Electrified power train etc.
• Good understanding about Hybrid vehicle, Battery Electric vehicles Architecture and components involved like inverters, DC-DC converter, Onboard Charging System, motor controls, etc.
• Detailed understanding of AC Charging (Architecture , types , energy flow, conversion) in ePT .
• Detailed understanding of DC Charging (Architecture , types , energy flow, conversion) for different regions and based on different protocols for PHEV and BEV .
• Good understanding about V2X features (V2L,V2H, V2G, V2V etc.) functionalities, working principle , applicability to standards.
• Good understanding of Battery management system (Architecture, functionalities, Estimations etc.)
• Good understanding about Charging and discharging standards (ISO , DIN , SAE etc.).
• Familiar with advance automotive technologies or functionalities such as Cruise control, ACC, ADAS, Stop & Start, ABS/ESP, Drive Modes, Thermal Management etc.
• Understanding of the HMI flows to achieve functionalities and interaction with User.
• Understanding of the Plug and charge feature (User interaction, certificate management, types of certificates and procedure)
• Good understanding of automotive electronics (Controllers, Sensors, actuators, Communication protocols like CAN, LIN, Flex ray etc.).
• Understanding basic sensor and actuator diagnostics.
• Understanding of the Vehicle schematic diagram and harness development process.
• Knowledge of Vehicle development Lifecycle, Change Management system, End of Line, Delivery plans.
• Familiar with Powertrain control software development/validation/ calibration.
• Knowledge of Requirement Development process
• Familiarity with Failure analysis techniques, FTA, HARA, DFMEA.
• Familiarity of functional safety concepts and ISO 2626
