Job summary

KPIT is seeking a seasoned Powertrain Engineer to lead function analysis and requirements capture for propulsion systems in a modern vehicle platform. You will work with DOORS and DOORS Next Gen to define functional requirements, operating modes, and energy management strategies while applying SFMEA and ISO26262 practices.

The role requires 5+ years in conventional and hybrid powertrain development, strong knowledge of CAN/LIN/OBD, and experience with MATLAB/SysML modeling.

Qualifications

  • BS Engineering or related field required.
  • 5+ years in conventional/hybrid powertrain development.
  • Strong system-level understanding of vehicle dynamics and electrical subsystems.

Responsibilities

  • Perform powertrain function analysis and decomposition.
  • Gather regulatory, environmental and electrical requirements.
  • Create propulsion system high-level functional requirements in DOORS/DNG.
  • Document propulsion system operating modes in DNG.
  • Develop energy management requirements for HV batteries and powertrain.
  • Define Propulsion EOL service requirements for components.
  • Analyze SFMEA and identify safety requirements.
  • Participate in Agile planning and risk identification.
  • Develop MATLAB and SysML-based simulation models for propulsion features.

Responsibilities
  • Performing powertrain function analysis and function decomposition
  • Requirement elicitation activities to gather Regulatory requirements, environmental and electrical parameters & associated corporate specifications etc.
  • Propulsion system high level functional requirement artifact creation in IBM DOORS/IBM DOORS Next Gen (DNG) including attribute classifications.
  • Propulsion System Operating Modes Identification, Analysis and Documentation in DNG.
  • Propulsion System energy conversion, storage and delivery understanding and requirement development considering standards and OBD compliance.
  • Propulsion system EOL Service requirements (IO,Routine,DID) defines for propulsion components
  • Powertrain Energy Management System analysis to for nominal, de-rated and non-functional performance.
  • Perform System Failure Mode and Effect Analysis (SFMEA) for Propulsion system functions and identify the safety requirement
  • Participate in Agile Methodology to plan RASI deliverable timing and identify potential risks.
  • Develop simulation/virtual models for specific propulsion features/functions using MATLAB, SysML Rhapsody.
Requirements
  • Bachelor of Science in Mechanical, Electrical, Aerospace, Electronics Engineering other related Engineering degree.
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in conventional and hybrid powertrain development.
  • Good understanding on overall vehicle dynamics and vehicle system functioning.
  • Good understanding automotive electrical sensors and actuators.
  • Good understanding of functions like gearbox management, energy management of high-voltage batteries, vehicle’s modes related to its performance, ECU power cycles and displaying powertrain-related information to the user on the HMI.
  • Good understanding of Functional Safety.
  • Expertise with automotive communication protocols such as CAN and LIN along with OBD standards.
  • Experience in Function analysis and function decomposition.
  • Expertise with Microsoft Office products Outlook, Excel, Visio, PowerPoint
  • Proficient in requirement management tools such as IBM Rational DOORs, IBM DOORS Next Gen etc.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with Vector Tools for data collection.
  • Vehicle Validation or Powertrain Calibration experience.
  • Familiarity with Agile project management
  • Experience with overall vehicle development cycle and Change management process.
  • Good communication skills, able to lead meetings with cross functional team.
