Powertrain Engine Calibration Engineer - Intermediate

Job Summary:

Our client in Chelsea, MI is seeking a Powertrain Engine Calibration Engineer - Intermediate for a contract position.

What You Will Do:

As a D&E Drivability & Emissions Calibration Engineer, you will develop optimal engine calibrations to meet drivability, emissions, and fuel economy targets. You will oversee calibration maturity and development across the entire lifecycle, including conceptual, strategy development, calibration execution, and validation phases, covering various propulsion systems and electrification levels. Collaboration with calibration teams and functions to achieve emissions compliance is essential.

You will coordinate daily propulsion dyno and vehicle testing activities, collaborating with technicians and support engineers. You will also develop test plans, timelines, and reports to communicate progress to development and management teams.

Basic Requirements:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering from an ABET-accredited university.
  • At least 3 years of experience in spark ignition engine controls and calibration.
  • Knowledge of engine systems including combustion, valvetrain, fuel, boost, EGR, aftertreatment, controls, and diagnostics.
  • Experience with feature calibration focusing on drivability, emissions, and fuel economy.
  • Experience in launching applications meeting US standards (ACC/ACCII) and ROW markets.
  • Data acquisition skills for data collection and analysis.
  • Strong teamwork and independent work abilities.
  • Effective communication skills for presenting technical information.
  • Proficiency with MATLAB/Simulink and ETAS/INCA.
  • Position is 100% onsite, with travel up to 20% within the US.
  • Driving a vehicle is required.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's Degree in Engineering from an ABET-accredited university.
  • Five or more years of experience.
  • DFSS Green Belt or higher certification.
  • Experience with problem-solving techniques like Six Sigma, RedX, Kaizen, 5S, etc.
