Job description

  • Lead the Gasoline Air, Torque, Starting, and Accessories Software Controls team within the Propulsion Software and Diagnostics Department

  • Own and communicate the status of all team work products in design reviews and management escalation meetings, taking full accountability for all embedded controls developed by the team

  • Drive delivery across a broad and demanding scope — including AECD regulatory reviews, EU7/FMVSS compliance deliverables, engine start/stop and power management features (e.g., ENGST/STPEX/PSTAT), and low-voltage/battery system controls (LVSM/BIC)

  • Collaborate with global gas and diesel software development and calibration teams to plan and implement software on time and to high quality standards

  • Manage highly technical staff, fostering a culture of ownership, urgency, and proactive risk mitigation (e.g., identifying and resolving gating issues before they impact program milestones)

  • Plan controls and monitors for gasoline and diesel engines, developing future technologies to meet emissions regulations and support new hardware technologies across platforms (e.g., P702, P708, P736, P768, CX735, S650, S750, V363)

  • Use connected data and warranty/field reports to identify and resolve top quality issues related to engine control software, including rapid response to field-reported issues

  • Use Jira to triage and prioritize a backlog of work across multiple scrum teams; demonstrate strong command of SAFe AGILE methodology and delivery metrics (Say/Do ratio, code coverage, static analysis, defect targets)

  • Champion modernization and code-quality initiatives — architecture cleanup, tooling investment (e.g., AI-assisted development tools), and process migration efforts that benefit the broader engineering organization

  • Build and maintain strong working relationships across peer product, integration, and service teams, exhibiting excellent networking and relationship-building skills

  • Enforce process discipline and drive continuous improvement in a constructive, non-confrontational manner.

Requirements

  • 6 months of experience leading and mentoring a team of engineers

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills

  • Excellent networking and relationship-building skills

  • Proven ability to manage high-volume, high-complexity technical delivery across regulatory, quality, and platform priorities simultaneously

  • Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a closely related field of study a plus

  • Demonstrated leadership and collaborative skills working across diverse, interdependent teams a plus

  • Strong problem-solving skills (G8D, DMAIC) a plus

  • Working knowledge of Ford Quality processes and tools a plus

  • Working knowledge of GPDS Product Development Milestones and Deliverables a plus

  • Experience with data collection, simulation, test automation, and communication systems a plus

  • Experience with Ford powertrain tools – Blueprint, UPS, CFX, Unix, Clearcase, Jira, Matlab, Simulink, VS Code, GitHub a plus

  • Experience navigating regulatory compliance work (EU7, FMVSS) and cross-platform architecture initiatives a plus.
