WEC Energy Group, Milwaukee, Wisconsin, is seeking a Power Trader to minimize net costs by optimizing owned and contracted generation while supporting reliable system operations.

The role requires evaluating resources, dispatching generation in real time, and developing bids using forecasts and market conditions. A background in energy markets, NERC readiness, and strong analytical skills are essential for success.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree, or in lieu of a degree, a minimum of 5 years’ experience in generation, bulk electric system operations, and/or wholesale electric markets.
• Strong analytical and computer skills.
• Thrives in a fast paced, continuously changing work environment and have the ability to deal with stressful situations effectively and make quick decisions, sometimes with limited information.
• NERC system operator certification required or the ability to obtain certification within six (6) months

Responsibilities

• Continuously evaluate company-owned and contracted generator availability and performance and maintain and update generation resource offers, in order to maximize the value of these assets in both the Day Ahead and Real Time markets.
• Dispatch owned and contracted generation resources in real time (24x7) to support reliability in an economic and safe manner
• Create demand bids using load forecasts, market price forecasts for Day Ahead and Real Time markets, projected generator availability and commitments, projected net position, transmission system topology expectations derived from available information and experience, and in consideration of interrelationships with Financial Transmission Rights and generation asset values
