Job summary

SGB-SMIT USA is seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer to join our transformer design team in Louisville. You will review customer specs, develop tank, frame and structural designs, and create detailed BOMs and drawings using CAD tools.

Ideal candidates hold a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering with 3+ years in heavy equipment or transformer design, and have strong problem-solving skills and hands-on mindset. Knowledge of ASME/IEEE/ANSI standards is a plus.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering required.
• 3+ years of mechanical design experience in heavy equipment or transformers.
• Experience with CAD tools and mechanical calculation methods.
• Knowledge of ASME, IEEE, and ANSI standards.

Responsibilities

• Review customer specifications to support design requirements.
• Inspect customer-supplied components and determine disposition.
• Develop and modify tank, frame, and structural designs based on engineering requirements.
• Prepare Bills of Materials (BOMs) for procurement.
• Create, modify, and revise detailed drawings including assemblies and components.
• Perform in-process inspections to verify design conformity.
• Assist with insulation clearance validation and design verification activities.
• Support assembly drawing development and production documentation.
• Stay current with industry standards and engineering practices.
