Job summary

The Electric Reliability Council of Texas is seeking an Electrical Engineer in Taylor, TX to provide critical electrical engineering analysis and technical support. Job description

Job Summary

The Electrical Engineer provides electrical engineering analysis and technical support for the planning and operation of the electric power system. Responsibilities include implementing system modeling, developing tools and procedures, performing steady‑state, dynamic stability, and electromagnetic transient analyses, running scenarios, preparing study reports, and enhancing transmission planning and market forecasting processes.

Responsibilities
  • Design and perform steady‑state, dynamic stability, and EM transient analyses using tools such as PSSE, VSAT, TSAT, PowerWorld, PSCAD.
  • Run scenarios, analyze study accuracy, assign confidence metrics, and develop recommendations.
  • Structure planning studies and sensitivity analyses to evaluate proposed projects and technical/financial impacts.
  • Develop improvements to transmission planning and market forecasting processes.
  • Assist market participants in updating power system dynamic models and review stakeholder reports for technical accuracy.
  • Prepare study reports and procedures for ERCOT management, NERC, and other entities.
  • Lead or mentor engineers and analysts, coordinate stakeholder meetings, and serve as a subject‑matter expert in senior and lead roles.
  • Act as a technical authority for market participants and stakeholder engagement.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or related field (or equivalent education and experience).
  • Engineer‑2: 1–2years of progressively responsible experience as a power system engineer; Engineer‑3: 3years; Senior Engineer: 5years; Lead Engineer: 10years.
  • Experience within the electric utility industry preferred.
Preferred Experience
  • Dynamic model quality testing and performance response review of generators.
  • Large‑scale dynamic stability analyses using PSSE, TSAT, PowerWorld.
  • EMT simulation, especially large‑scale system analysis with PSCAD.
  • Evaluation and updating of power system dynamic models.
  • Analysis of large load dynamic behavior (e.g., data centers, industrial loads).
  • Programming and simulation automation tools (Python).
  • Mitigation of sub‑synchronous oscillation issues.
  • Improvement of transmission planning processes and familiarity with NERC reliability standards.
Work Location

This hybrid position requires employees to be on‑site in Taylor, TX at least 2–3 days per week, with flexibility for rotation. Remote work may be performed from a Texas residence but is not the primary arrangement.
