Job summary

Job description

Grid Analysis Engineer

Job Summary

Provide electrical engineering analysis and technical support for the operations of the electric power system. Implement system modeling, develop tools and procedures to monitor and control the system, perform studies, analyze results, develop solutions, and report findings.

Responsibilities
  • Perform power‑flow simulations to evaluate Constraint Management Plans (CMPs) and Remedial Action Schemes (RASs) using PowerWorld, PSSE, VSAT, etc.
  • Perform regional power transfer analysis to identify potential wide‑area cascading risks.
  • Develop and maintain ERCOT’s Black Start Plan from resource selection to the restoration plan.
  • Evaluate current performance of generator and transmission equipment against reliability requirements and forecast future needs.
  • Propose and implement improvements, including rule/requirement changes, to maintain reliability of the future grid.
  • Design and perform steady‑state analyses using power flow models (PSSE, VSAT, or PowerWorld) under senior guidance.
  • Assist in market/protocol design issues from the operations perspective.
  • Structure operations studies and sensitivity analyses to determine the need for CMPs and regional power transfer interfaces.
  • Serve as a technical Subject Matter Expert for the department.
  • Make independent decisions except for unusually complex scenarios.
  • Coordinate, present, and participate in stakeholder meetings with ERCOT personnel and market participants.
  • Leverage strong working relationships with internal departments.
  • Mentor and advise less experienced engineers/analysts.
  • Lead multifunctional teams to obtain input, address comments, and perform studies.
Experience Requirements
  • Minimum 1–2 years (engineer 2) of progressively responsible experience as a power system engineer or similar role. Preferred experience within the electric utility industry.
  • Minimum 3 years (engineer 3) of progressively responsible experience. Preferred utility industry experience.
  • Minimum 5 years (senior engineer) as a power system engineer within the electric utility industry.
  • Background in power‑flow simulation and programming or scripting.
Education
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering or related field (or equivalent combination of education and experience).
  • Graduate degree in Electrical Engineering or related field is preferred.
Certification
  • PE (Professional Engineer) license is preferred but not required.
Location

Taylor, TX – Employees must be on‑site at least 2 days per week. Remote work is required from a Texas residence. On‑site schedules may be flexible or rotated.

Salary

Expected Salary Range: $109,000 – $150,000.
