Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or related field required; Graduate degree preferred.
  • Engineer I requires a Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience.
  • Engineer II requires 1 to 2 years of progressive power‑system engineering experience.
  • Engineer III requires 3 years of power‑system engineering experience.
  • Senior Engineer requires 5 years of power‑system engineering experience in the electric utility industry.

Job Summary

As a Grid Analysis Engineer at ERCOT, you will use advanced power‑flow models to evaluate and improve the reliability of the electric grid, support operational decision‑making, and act as a technical subject‑matter expert.

Responsibilities
  • Perform power‑flow simulations to evaluate Constraint Management Plans (CMPs) and Remedial Action Schemes (RASs) using tools such as PowerWorld, PSSE, and VSAT.
  • Conduct regional power‑transfer analysis to identify potential wide‑area cascading risks.
  • Develop and maintain the ERCOT Black Start Plan from resource selection through restoration procedures.
  • Evaluate the performance of generator and transmission equipment against reliability requirements and forecast future needs.
  • Propose and implement reliability improvements, including rule or requirement changes.
  • Design and perform steady‑state analyses under senior engineer guidance.
  • Provide input and analyses on market/protocol design issues to support operations.
  • Develop operations studies and sensitivity analyses to determine CMP necessity and power‑transfer interface requirements.
  • Lead and mentor teams, coordinate stakeholder meetings, and present findings to ERCOT personnel and market participants.
  • Maintain expertise in power‑system software, spreadsheets, and databases; stay current with industry trends.
Qualifications
  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or related field (Graduate degree preferred).
  • Experience:
    • Engineer I – Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience.
    • Engineer II – Minimum 1 to 2 years of progressive power‑system engineering experience.
    • Engineer III – Minimum 3 years of progressive power‑system engineering experience.
    • Senior Engineer – Minimum 5 years of power‑system engineering experience in the electric utility industry.
  • Professional Engineer license preferred but not required.
Required Experience
  • Power‑flow simulation experience.
  • Programming or scripting experience.
Location and Work Schedule

Employees must be on site in Taylor, TX at least 2 days per week; flexible or rotated schedules may apply. Remote work from a Texas residence is also required.

Salary Range

Expected Salary Range: $109,000 – $150,000.
