Job summary

UT Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas seeks an experienced Power System Technician II (IC Engine Generator and Emergency Backup Power) to support operation, maintenance and repair of campus emergency power systems. You will handle IC engines, transfer switches, controls and diesel systems in a hospital/healthcare setting.

The role covers maintenance from 5 kW to 3 MW, including diagnostics, load testing, emissions, SCADA/PLC monitoring, and coordination with contractors and plant operations.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Experience with stationary IC power generators, metering and control responsibilities is preferred.
  • Two-year technical electrical or mechanical trade school or military training helpful.

Responsibilities

  • Start up, shut down, and adjust power generation and switching systems.
  • Operate switchboards and synchronize generators; adjust 13.8 kV and 4.16 kV systems.
  • Perform preventive maintenance, load bank testing, emissions testing, and repairs.
  • Diagnose generator components and transfer switches; interpret wiring schematics.
  • Maintain maintenance schedules and coordinate with contractors and plant operations.
  • Provide fueling services for campus emergency generators after operations.
