Schweitzer Engineering Laboratories, Inc. seeks a Power System Protection Engineer to provide expert technical support and innovative solutions for protection schemes in electric power grids.

You will educate customers, design demonstrations, and troubleshoot SEL products to ensure reliable operation. The role emphasizes teaching, collaboration, and ongoing learning, with opportunities to contribute to technical papers.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or related field required.
  • Master's degree preferred.
  • 2+ years of experience with power system protection and relays (preferred).
  • Experience and knowledge of utility/industrial power systems with emphasis on protection, control, and operations (preferred).
  • Ability to build and maintain strong relationships with customers.
  • Strong communication and presentation skills.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and a desire to learn new technologies.
  • Ability to work independently and in a team environment.
  • Ability to travel 25%.

Responsibilities

  • Work with customers to apply new technologies or solutions to their power systems.
  • Design models or demonstrations of new technologies to teach customers how to enhance their systems.
  • Support SEL products and solution troubleshooting to reach root cause of problems.
  • Analyze responses of protective relays to power system faults.
  • Teach customers how to use SEL products and how protective relays protect equipment.
  • Contribute to and review white papers, application guides, and technical papers.
