Job summary

Vallum Associates is seeking an Electrical Engineer with strong Power Systems and PSCAD/EMT experience to join a small, highly technical team working on hyperscale data centres and next-generation energy infrastructure. You will collaborate with senior engineers on challenging projects across data centres, behind-the-meter generation, and microgrids.

The ideal candidate has 5–8 years in power systems, experience with PSS/E/ETAP/DIgSILENT, and familiarity with BESS, HVDC, or power electronics.

Qualifications

• 5–8 years power systems experience.
• Experience with PSS/E, ETAP or DIgSILENT.
• Solid understanding of power systems, symmetrical components and machine dynamics.
• Experience with IBRs, BESS, HVDC or power electronics.
• Python/MATLAB and RTDS/HIL experience would be highly desirable.

Responsibilities

• PSCAD/EMT modelling: building, validating, and running models.
• Power system studies: load flow, short circuit, dynamic stability, protection coordination and RAM.
• Work on BESS and inverter-based resources, including grid-forming and grid-following controls.
• Contribute to data centre and microgrid projects with large-load dynamics.
• Prepare technical reports and client-facing engineering deliverables.

I’m currently supporting a specialist power engineering consultancy that is growing its team and looking for an Electrical Engineer with strong Power Systems and PSCAD/EMT experience.

You’ll work directly with senior engineers on technically challenging projects across hyperscale data centres, behind-the-meter generation, BESS, microgrids and next-generation energy infrastructure.

What you’ll work on:

• PSCAD / EMT modelling – building, validating and running electromagnetic transient models
• Power system studies – load flow, short circuit, dynamic stability, protection coordination and RAM
• BESS & inverter-based resources – including grid-forming and grid-following controls
• Data centre & microgrid projects – large-load dynamics, islanded systems and behind-the-meter generation
• Synchronous machines & controls – AVR, governors and PSS
• Technical reports and client-facing engineering deliverables
• Emerging technologies including HVDC, SMRs and advanced power system controls

Ideal background:

• 5–8 years’ power systems experience
• Experience with PSS/E, ETAP or DIgSILENT
• Solid understanding of power systems, symmetrical components and machine dynamics
• Experience with IBRs, BESS, HVDC or power electronics
