Job summary

Communication Data Link in Marion, Iowa, is seeking a Power Supply Laborer to install, set, and secure cable pedestals used in underground telecommunications systems. You will support crews by excavating, pedestal placement, backfilling, and basic cable management while strictly following safety and company standards, and you will ensure the site is restored with minimal disturbance.

Responsibilities

  • Set and level cable pedestals per standards.
  • Excavate holes and trenches for pedestal placement.
  • Pull, route, and dress cables through pedestals; maintain slack.
  • Backfill and restore work areas after installation.
  • Follow 811 guidelines and safety procedures.
  • Travel to different sites as required.
  • Maintain tools and keep the job site clean.

Job description

As a Power Supply Laborer, you will be responsible for installing, setting, and securing cable pedestals used in underground telecommunications systems. This role supports cable, fiber, and utility construction crews by performing excavation, pedestal placement, backfilling, and basic cable management while following safety and company standards. You will also close out the job by restoring the job site to ensure that minimal disturbance is seen.

Job Responsibilities
  • Setting Peds as needed
  • Making sure that the Peds are being set accurately and according to the proper standards.
  • Traveling to different sites will be required.
  • Excavate holes and trenches for cable pedestal placement
  • Set, level, and secure cable pedestals according to company specifications
  • Install pedestal bases, covers, and mounting hardware
  • Pull, route, and dress coaxial, fiber optic, or copper cables through pedestals
  • Maintain proper slack, bend radius, and protection of cables
  • Backfill, tamp, and restore work areas after installation
  • Assist with locating existing utilities and following 811 guidelines
  • Maintain tools, equipment, and a clean job site
  • Follow OSHA, company, and site-specific safety procedures
  • Work closely with crew leaders, technicians, and utility inspectors

Preferred Qualifications

Work expectations
  • Standard Work Week: Monday-Friday; 7 am – 5 pm; Weekend work may be required with little or no notice; work schedule determined by season, weather, deadlines, and availability of work
  • Travel: At times, the employee may be assigned to a job site where several overnight stays are required. Marion will be the main office, but on occasion it will be required to travel to Waterloo, and Iowa city.
  • Environment Conditions: at times will be exposed to various contaminants, like exhausted vapors, gas/diesel fumes, and dust; be subjected to noisy conditions; diverse weather conditions, including high heat (over 90°), freezing conditions (below 15°), and all forms of precipitation (high humidity/snow/rain)
  • Physical Conditions: May require standing, kneeling, digging, and bending for extended periods. Able to frequently move objects weighing more than 100lbs for distances greater than fifty feet; remain in a stationary position for several hours; able to move from one location to another around the Jobsite; must be able to manipulate various controls on equipment; ability to constantly be able to reposition oneself.
