Job summary

Smurfit Westrock in Virginia is seeking a Power & Recovery Supervisor to lead day-to-day power operations, including boilers, turbines, and water treatment oversight. You will drive safety, environmental compliance, and cost control while pushing process improvements and asset reliability.

Reporting to the Power & Recovery Superintendent, you will develop partnerships with adjacent areas to create a winning team culture and supervise a multi-craft staff in a fast-paced mill environment.

Qualifications

• B.S. Engineering preferred.
• Minimum 3-5 years’ experience around power boiler and turbine operation.
• Minimum 3 years in a supervisory position.
• Previous experience with a Production Management System and Computerized Maintenance Management System required.
• Proficient in PI, Microsoft Office and JDE.

Responsibilities

• Accountable for an accident-free work environment by managing SOPs, JHAs and SES systems.
• Ensure Safety and Environmental standards are at the forefront of all decisions.
• Engage in WR Performance Excellence (LSS) and drive cost-effective process improvements.
• Review production reports daily and take action to meet internal customer expectations.
• Monitor daily fuel usage and adjust operations based on energy costs.
• Develop and implement projects to improve uptime and efficiency.
• Optimize boiler and turbine operation while maintaining an environmentally sound process.
• Communicate with other department managers to optimize mill production.
• Promote teamwork to reach production goals and provide after-hours support as needed.
• Review environmental compliance measures daily and address non-conformances.
• Initiate projects to reduce emissions and maintain budgets.
• Maintain asset management systems and support capital projects with standardized processes.
• Coordinate with training to ensure timely employee development and progression.
• Promote ISO standards within the department.
