Job summary

Domtar's Howe Sound Mill seeks an experienced Human Resources Coordinator to lead safety-focused operations and employee development in a hands-on industrial setting. The role emphasizes coordinating training, scheduling, and compliance across the Power & Recovery Plant workforce.

The successful candidate will serve as Incident Commander during emergencies, drive safety initiatives, and collaborate with Operations, Maintenance, and Engineering to sustain productivity and equipment reliability.

Qualifications

• Must hold a valid Second Class Power Engineer Certificate of Competency or higher.
• Minimum of 5 years of experience in pulp mill operations, with knowledge of recovery boilers, power boilers, steam turbines and related systems.
• Minimum of 2 years of supervisory experience, preferably in a unionized environment.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills across all organizational levels.
• Proven decision-making ability and coaching for safe, disciplined practices.

Responsibilities

• Directs workforce to ensure safe, continuous operation of Power & Recovery Plant.
• Fosters a proactive safety culture with accountability and ownership.
• Acts as Incident Commander during emergencies; directs response and safety.
• Prioritizes employee training and development and core safety trainings.
• Coordinates crew scheduling and time-off per collective agreement.
• Ensures compliance with TSBC, WorkSafeBC, regulations and ISO standards.
• Investigates incidents and follows up with corrective actions.
• Coordinates between Operations, Maintenance and Engineering for productivity.
• Monitors equipment integrity and coordinates off-shift maintenance.
• Establishes KPIs to support targets and change initiatives.
