Job summary

FirstEnergy, based in Akron, Ohio, is seeking an Engineer IV/III in power quality to lead expert-level investigations and initiatives across transmission systems.

You will research power quality technologies, coordinate investigations with regulators and customers, perform engineering studies, and develop procedures to ensure IEEE/NERC/FERC compliance. A BS in Electrical Engineering (ABET-accredited) and 3–5+ years of experience are required. PE license preferred.

Qualifications

• ABET-accredited B.S. in Electrical Engineering required.
• Minimum 3 years of professional engineering experience.
• Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Ability to work independently on assignments involving technical studies, investigations, reports, and projects.

Responsibilities

• Researching and evaluating emerging power quality technologies, software applications, and industry practices, and developing implementation recommendations.
• Managing diverse projects, processes, and programs affecting transmission system power quality performance with minimal supervision.
• Coordinating power quality investigations with internal stakeholders, customers, consultants, equipment manufacturers, and regulatory organizations.
• Performing engineering studies to identify and resolve power quality issues including voltage flicker, harmonics, voltage unbalance, oscillations, sags, swells, transients, and interruptions.
• Developing and maintaining power quality procedures, standards, and practices while ensuring compliance with IEEE, NERC, FERC, PJM, and state regulatory requirements.
