Job summary

Alaska Power & Telephone Company seeks a Power Plant Operator to support safe, reliable electric generation across our service areas. You will operate, monitor, and maintain diesel generation systems and related low-voltage equipment, ensuring continuous power delivery.

The role offers on-call rotations, overtime when needed, and opportunities to join AP&T’s four-year apprenticeship program for advancement and hands-on experience in power generation and utility operations.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED.
• Ability to safely work around electrical and mechanical equipment.
• Valid driver's license and ability to obtain required job-related certifications.
• Ability to participate in an on-call rotation and work overtime as needed.

Responsibilities

• Operate and monitor diesel generation systems and related equipment.
• Perform dispatching, switching, and system operating functions.
• Troubleshoot, repair, overhaul, and maintain generation and low-voltage equipment.
• Record equipment performance, maintenance activities, and operational data.
• Travel occasionally to support projects and emergency response efforts.
• Mentor and assist apprentices as assigned.
