Job summary

The City of Russell is seeking a reliable Power Plant Operator to manage our electrical generation facilities and ensure continuous power to the community. The role requires operating large dual‑fuel engines, monitoring outputs, and coordinating with external utility connections.

Responsibilities include recording detailed plant logs, performing routine maintenance, and assisting with complex repairs. The position follows a rotating shift schedule including nights, weekends, and holidays.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or G.E.D. is required.
• Valid Kansas Driver’s License.

Responsibilities

• Start, operate, and shut down dual‑fuel engines from 3,600 HP to 10,000 HP.
• Monitor generator outputs and coordinate with external electric utility systems.
• Record plant data accurately in logs and perform routine maintenance on pumps and valves.
• Assist mechanics and other city staff on projects; maintain a clean, safe facility.
• Adhere to a rotating night/weekend/holiday shift to ensure 24/7 power.
