Job summary

Calpine seeks a Maintenance Operator to ensure proper, safe operation of the power facility. You will troubleshoot and repair mechanical and electrical equipment, work under plant supervision, and support maintenance programs.

The role requires data recording, routine inspections, and adherence to safety and environmental rules. Responsibilities include covering Lead Operator duties as needed, reading gauges, and maintaining equipment.

Qualifications

• Associates Degree (AA) or equivalent from a two-year college or technical school; or four to six years related experience and/or training; or a combination of experience and education.
• Basic electrical knowledge.
• High School diploma or equivalent required.

Responsibilities

• Fill in for Lead Operator on an as needed basis.
• Read meters, gauges, or devices to record data and verify operating conditions.
• Inform management of unusual conditions, damaged equipment, and progress of work.
• Visually inspect equipment to detect malfunctions and needs for repairs or lubrication.
• Support maintenance procedures and use of the computerized Maintenance Management System.
• Maintain equipment by tightening fittings, replacing gaskets and gauges, and cleaning components.
• Perform work of equal or lesser skilled classifications and record actions taken.
• Open/close valves and circuit breakers for proper operation and isolation.
• Assist with capital projects and major programs as assigned by management.
• Repair, replace, dismantle, and examine defective parts and perform metal fabrication as needed.
• Operate drill press, grinder, and related tools to make/repair parts.
• Operate welding equipment and complete metal fabrication projects.
• Diagnose causes of malfunctions and read/interpret procedures and drawings.
• Work shifts as assigned; overtime as needed.
