Job summary

DuPage County is seeking a Stationary Engineer to operate, maintain, and repair complex power plant and HVAC systems within County facilities. The role includes preventive maintenance, emergency response, and coordination of related mechanical equipment.

The position is unionized under IUOE Local 399 with a starting salary of $86,700 plus shift differentials. A high school diploma, 4 years of licensed experience, and an Illinois driver’s license are required.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or GED required.
• Four (4) years’ experience as a licensed Stationary Engineer; operating, repairing and maintaining high‑pressure vessels and related equipment.
• Licensed as a registered Stationary Engineer by the City of Chicago or other equivalent license.
• Must possess and maintain a valid Illinois driver’s license.

Responsibilities

• Operates, maintains and repairs all power plant facilities and equipment (boilers, chillers, pumps, HVAC controls, electrical distribution, etc.).
• Performs stationary engineer duties and preventive maintenance for facilities’ HVAC equipment.
• Maintains records of work performed and inventories stock/materials.
• Conducts routine checks, reads gauges, and adjusts water levels/pressures as needed.
• Responds to emergencies and notifies appropriate staff.
• Performs scheduled preventive maintenance and emergency work orders.
• Installs and maintains equipment that controls other equipment (DDC thermostats, controllers, safety devices).
• Supports other labor trades classifications as needed.
