Job summary

National Grid plc in Alabama is seeking a Director of Power Plant Management to oversee the daily operation of a major electric generating facility. The role emphasizes safety, reliability, regulatory compliance, and cost performance while delivering on strategic business plans.

You will lead budgets, maintenance, and stakeholder relationships with government and communities near the plant, and manage a team to drive productivity and safe, efficient production.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in engineering required.
• 10+ years in operation and maintenance of electric generating facilities.
• In-depth knowledge of MARSEC and NERC-CIP, and environmental regulations.
• Familiarity with National Grid’s Power Supply Agreement with LIPA.
• Knowledge of NY ISO rules and New York energy market.
• Understanding of corporate accounting and financial processes.

Responsibilities

• Lead day-to-day operation of the plant to ensure safety, maximize efficiency, minimize outages and ensure regulatory compliance.
• Establish, monitor, and report operating and capital budgets to optimize station performance.
• Drive operational processes to achieve high productivity and cost efficiency.
• Advocate for safety and manage hazards and incidents affecting staff and contractors.
• Lead plant maintenance planning to meet budget and performance objectives.
• Engage with government officials and communities to manage stakeholder needs.
• Oversee collective bargaining with labor unions to minimize production interruptions.
• Provide leadership and development for the plant team, including performance reviews and succession planning.

Education

Bachelor's degree in engineering

Professional engineering designation preferred
