Job summary

Prairie State Energy Campus is seeking a Chemical Engineer Analyst to support a coal-fired power plant. The role covers chemical systems (ammonia, boiler cycle, absorber, fuel, flue gas), cross-training with Mechanical and Electrical System Engineers, and collaboration with Environmental to support permitting and emissions testing.

The position requires working through outages and 12+ hour shifts including days, nights, holidays, and weekends.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering is required; 5 years water chemistry experience may substitute.
• Knowledge of water treatment, pH control, process flow and mass balance, and testing methods for water chemicals and solids.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite for presentations and reports.

Responsibilities

• Within the first year, complete 10 weeks of shadowing an operations shift to learn plant operations.
• Coordinate with vendors to optimize chemical injection rates and manage costs to improve plant reliability.
• Manage all maintenance and repair projects for scheduled and unscheduled work to maintain or improve plant reliability.
• Oversee outage budgets for the listed systems and provide financial oversight.
• Lead or participate in RCFA and FMEA processes for the listed systems to ensure timely corrective actions.
• Develop and review Preventative Maintenance activities aligned with Reliability Centered Maintenance.
• Provide project and critical path management for outages, including scope, budgets, and contractor oversight.
• Train Maintenance and Plant Operations personnel in reliable, safe, and efficient maintenance and troubleshooting methods.
• Maintain equipment inspections, testing, and history records and support ancillary improvement projects.
• Regular attendance during outages is required.
