Job summary

University of Alabama at Birmingham seeks an experienced Boiler Operator to operate and maintain campus boilers, combustion and water systems, supporting 24/7 facilities operations. The role emphasizes safety, system monitoring, and preventive maintenance to ensure reliable steam and hot-water supply for campus and hospital facilities.

Candidates should have boiler operation experience, be familiar with water chemistry testing, and be capable of reading schematics and using CMMS for work orders.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Three years of related experience operating and maintaining boilers and boiler support equipment.
• Technical or vocational training in industrial maintenance or power plant operations preferred.
• Experience with high-pressure steam systems, boiler efficiency testing, and water chemistry treatment desired.

Responsibilities

• Operate, monitor, inspect, maintain, repair, and optimize boilers and boiler support systems.
• Perform routine and preventive maintenance on boilers, combustion systems, and water treatment equipment.
• Read blueprints and manufacturer specs for boiler and mechanical systems.
• Record operational data and maintenance actions per standards.
• Coordinate with contractors and inspectors during maintenance and inspection activities.
