Job summary

University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) is seeking a Boiler Operator to operate, monitor, inspect, maintain, repair, and optimize campus and hospital boiler systems. You will perform water chemistry testing, calibrate controls, and coordinate with contractors for preventive maintenance, inspections, and safety compliance.

The role requires strong knowledge of boiler systems, safety practices, and the ability to work a rotating 24/7 schedule in a high‑demand environment.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Three years of related experience operating and maintaining boilers and boiler support equipment.
• Preferred: vocational training in industrial maintenance or power plant operations; ASOPE certification.
• Experience with high‑pressure steam systems and water chemistry is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Operates, monitors, and inspects boilers and support systems for safe, reliable performance.
• Performs routine, preventive, and corrective maintenance on boilers and related systems.
• Maintains and tests water chemistry; calibrates chemical feed systems.
• Reads blueprints, schematics, and manufacturer specs for boiler systems.
• Coordinates with contractors and inspectors during maintenance and inspection activities.
• Maintains clean, safe boiler plant and documents data per standards.
