Job summary

The University of Alabama at Birmingham is seeking a Boiler Instrument & Control Technician to operate, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair boiler instrumentation, controls, and safety systems supporting campus steam and hot water operations. You will monitor performance with BAS, perform annual safety testing, document activities, and coordinate with HVAC and energy teams to ensure safe, efficient boiler operations.

A related associate degree and five years of experience are preferred.

Qualifications

  • Requires Associate degree and five years experience or equivalent.
  • Completion of boiler technician training preferred.
  • Experience in institutional/utility environments desirable.

Responsibilities

  • Operate, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair boiler systems and safety devices.
  • Diagnose burner management and combustion control systems.
  • Perform annual testing and certifications per standards.
  • Monitor BAS and respond to alarms and abnormalities.
  • Collaborate with HVAC and energy teams for campus operations.
  • Maintain CMMS records and documentation.
  • Participate in on-call rotations and after-hours responses.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
