Job summary

TransGrid Energy seeks a Power Markets Associate in Houston to turn market, weather, and asset data into actionable insights for asset optimization and cash trading. You will build analytics infrastructure, automate reporting, and support commercial strategy across a growing fleet of battery storage and solar assets.

The role requires strong SQL and Python skills, experience with time-series data, and a solid understanding of LMPs, Day-Ahead, and Real-Time markets.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in business, economics, finance, engineering, mathematics, computer science, or a related field.
• 2+ years in power markets, asset optimization, or wholesale energy-market activity.
• Strong SQL skills and Python experience with Pandas/NumPy for data analysis, automation, and reporting.
• Experience handling large, complex datasets and turning data into commercial insight.
• Experience building data workflows, automated reporting, or analytical tools used for business decisions.
• Solid understanding of wholesale power-market concepts (LMPs, Day-Ahead, Real-Time, congestion, basis risk, ancillary services).
• Excellent communication and cross-functional collaboration skills.

Responsibilities

• Build and maintain internal data pipelines ingesting market, weather, pricing, operational, and settlement data from various sources.
• Develop scalable datasets and analytical tools supporting asset optimization, cash trading, and portfolio-risk monitoring.
• Query and analyze large time-series datasets to identify pricing patterns and market signals relevant to assets.
• Automate recurring workflows and reporting using SQL, Python to improve speed and consistency.
• Create dashboards and reports providing visibility into market conditions, portfolio performance, and risk indicators.
• Support trading and asset-management decisions through quantitative analysis and scenario evaluation.
• Assist with settlement validation, collateral awareness, and post-trade performance analysis.
• Support onboarding of new assets and data sources by establishing reporting structures and monitoring frameworks.
• Monitor ISO/RTO market rules and regulatory developments affecting BESS, solar, and related strategies.
• Collaborate with asset management, trading, operations, finance, and counterparties to ensure analytical work supports execution.
• Contribute to scalable internal analytics capability for broader commercial buildout.
• Perform other duties and special projects as assigned.
