Job summary

University of Massachusetts Boston seeks a skilled Utility Plant Operator to operate, monitor and maintain boilers, chiller systems and associated equipment. The role involves inspecting machinery, reading gauges, and performing routine preventive maintenance to ensure safe campus operations.

The position requires extensive knowledge of power plant operations, safety practices, and strong problem-solving abilities, with readiness to respond to emergencies and maintain detailed logs.

Qualifications

• Five years of full-time experience operating/maintaining boiler or chiller plants is required.
• Massachusetts Fireman License (1st Class or 2nd Class) or Engineer License (1st Class, 2nd Class or 3rd Class) issued by Massachusetts DPS is required.
• Knowledge of Microsoft Office and computer skills; familiarity with power plant operations and safety practices.

Responsibilities

• Operate boilers and related auxiliary equipment per SOPs and safety regs.
• Operate, maintain, and repair HVAC systems including pumps, fans, coils, and meters.
• Inspect machinery, read meters, perform tests, and monitor water quality.
• Perform routine preventive maintenance and necessary repairs on campus equipment.
• Respond to emergencies or equipment breakdowns and maintain operation logs.
