Job summary

University of Massachusetts Boston is seeking a Utility Plant Operator to operate and maintain boilers, chillers, pumps, and related equipment in the facilities department. The role includes monitoring electronic controls, performing routine preventive maintenance, and responding to emergencies to ensure safe and efficient plant operations on campus.

The position requires a minimum of five years of full-time boiler or chiller plant experience and possession of a Massachusetts Fireman or Engineer

Qualifications

• Five years of full-time operation/maintenance in boiler/chiller plants required.
• Massachusetts Fireman or Engineer license issued by the state is required.
• Knowledge of Microsoft Office and computer skills.

Responsibilities

• Operate boilers and related equipment following SOPs and safety regulations.
• Maintain HVAC systems including pumps, chillers, fans, and coils.
• Inspect machinery, read meters, and perform tests for water quality and system performance.
• Respond to emergencies and monitor fuel levels and outages.
• Maintain logs and prepare reports on equipment and operations.
