Job summary

Zachry Group in Charlotte seeks a Senior Mechanical Engineer to lead design efforts for power generation projects, including combined-cycle facilities. You will guide mechanical design teams, coordinate with electrical, civil, and I&C disciplines, and ensure the delivery of robust, constructible solutions from early design through construction support.

The role emphasizes mentorship, technical excellence, and effective communication with clients and vendors, with travel as needed on multi-site

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering from an accredited program.
• 15+ years of experience in power generation, with a focus on combined-cycle or thermal power plant design.
• Experience leading mechanical engineering teams on large-scale projects.
• Strong understanding of power plant systems including gas turbines, steam turbines, HRSGs, and balance of plant.

Responsibilities

• Lead and mentor a team of 3–5 mechanical engineers.
• Drive the mechanical design and technical execution for combined-cycle and thermal power facilities (gas turbines, HRSGs, steam systems, and balance of plant).
• Coordinate across disciplines (electrical, civil/structural, I&C) for integrated design solutions.
• Manage project schedules, budgets, and deliverables with risk/mitigation planning.
• Develop and maintain resource plans aligned with project demands.
• Prepare RFQ packages and technical specifications for major equipment.
• Perform technical bid evaluations and provide equipment recommendations.
• Review vendor documentation for project compliance with codes and standards.
