Job summary

Interstate Power Systems is seeking a Power Generation Field Service Technician in Altoona, Iowa. You will install, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair diesel and natural gas generators, transfer switches, and related electrical systems, while ensuring safety and customer satisfaction.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• 2 years minimum experience as a Power Generation Technician or related field preferred.
• Strong knowledge of diesel and natural gas engines, electrical systems, and control panels.
• Familiarity with brands such as Cummins, Caterpillar, Kohler, John Deere, MTU, Detroit.
• Proficiency with diagnostic tools and testing equipment.
• Valid driver’s license; CDL is a plus.
• Ability to work independently and in a team; strong problem-solving skills.

Responsibilities

• Perform preventive maintenance, inspections, and repairs on generators, engines, and control systems.
• Diagnose and troubleshoot electrical, mechanical, and electronic issues in generator systems.
• Conduct load bank testing, system upgrades, and installations as needed.
• Ensure safety standards and company protocols are followed.
• Document service activities and detailed reports of maintenance and parts used.
• Collaborate with team and communicate effectively with clients for quality service.
• Respond to emergency service calls and provide after-hours support.
• Maintain tools, equipment, and service vehicles in good condition.
