Job summary

Optomi, in partnership with a leading utility and energy organization, is seeking a Power Engineer to join their Telecommunications Engineering team in Raleigh, NC. This role focuses on designing, implementing, testing, and documenting complex AC and DC power solutions supporting telecom and critical infrastructure systems.

The candidate will work hybrid, onsite in downtown Raleigh three days per week. The ideal candidate has 6+ years of electrical/telecom power experience, hands-on AC/DC power

Qualifications

• 6+ years of electrical/telecom power engineering experience.
• Hands-on experience with AC power systems (120/240V) and DC power systems (48V/130V).
• Deep understanding of UPS, DC plant, rectifiers, and battery monitoring.
• Experience with telecom grounding standards for shelters, towers, and infrastructure.
• Familiarity with backup generators and power redundancy.
• Basic TCP/IP, routing, switching, and telecom network environments.
• Experience with scripting or programming (Python, Bash) preferred.
• Experience in utility/telecom/critical infrastructure environments.
• Strong documentation skills (drawings, schematics, design packs).
• Familiarity with Agile practices and cross-functional teams.

Responsibilities

• Design, implement, and support AC/DC telecom power systems including UPS and DC plants.
• Develop EJPs with equipment lists, drawings, and network diagrams.
• Prepare cost estimates, technical studies, and work orders for deployments.
• Provide technical support to field ops, NOC teams, and installation crews.
• Troubleshoot and resolve telecom power system issues.
• Coordinate with engineering, operations, and project teams on upgrades.
• Maintain awareness of current telecom power technologies and best practices.
• Support documentation, standards compliance, and system optimization.

This engineer will play a critical role in designing, implementing, testing, and documenting complex AC and DC power solutions supporting telecom and critical infrastructure systems. The ideal candidate will bring deep expertise in AC/DC power engineering, UPS systems, DC plant infrastructure, grounding systems, and telecom facility power design. This is a highly technical, hands-on engineering role responsible for ensuring reliable and cost-effective telecom power systems that support enterprise communication networks. This position requires strong independent execution, collaboration across engineering and operations teams, and the ability to support both design and field implementation activities. This role is hybrid and requires onsite presence in downtown Raleigh three days per week.

• Prepare cost estimates, technical studies, and work orders for planned infrastructure deployments
• Provide technical support to field operations, NOC teams, installation crews, and maintenance personnel
• Support troubleshooting and advanced problem resolution for telecom power systems
• Coordinate with engineering, operations, and project teams to deliver infrastructure upgrades and implementations
• Maintain awareness of current telecom power technologies and industry best practices
• Support documentation, standards compliance, and system optimization initiatives
• Contribute to process improvements for operational efficiency and support scalability of telecom power systems
