We are assisting our client in sourcing for a Power Engineer
Location: Austin, TX | On-Site/Hybrid
Salary: $110,000–$125,000, based on experience
Position Overview
Our client is seeking a hands-on Power Engineer to design, develop, test, and continuously improve mobile and vehicle-integrated power systems.
This role will work across technologies including battery systems, solar power, generators, inverters, converters, charging systems, power electronics, and integrated vehicle electrical architectures.
This is an excellent opportunity for an engineer who enjoys combining electrical engineering theory with practical, real-world applications. The ideal candidate will be comfortable designing a system and equally comfortable in the shop or field building, testing, troubleshooting, and improving it.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and develop electrical power systems for mobile, solar, generator, and vehicle-mounted applications.
- Develop battery management, power distribution, inverter, converter, and charging subsystems.
- Create and maintain electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and system architecture documentation.
- Select and specify batteries, contactors, fuses, wiring, connectors, power electronics, and other electrical components.
- Perform electrical load calculations, system sizing, and thermal analysis.
- Build, test, and validate prototypes through bench testing and real-world field testing.
- Troubleshoot electrical and power-system issues in production and field environments.
- Perform root-cause analysis and develop effective corrective actions.
- Support the integration of power systems into customer vehicles, fleets, and operations.
- Work directly with installation and service technicians during system deployment and troubleshooting.
- Ensure designs comply with applicable electrical and safety standards for mobile and vehicle power systems.
- Partner with mechanical, controls, production, and quality teams to ensure designs are manufacturable, testable, reliable, and serviceable.
- Maintain BOMs, technical documentation, and engineering revision controls.
- Support new product development from initial concept through prototype, validation, and production release.
- Provide technical support to sales, service, and customers regarding system capabilities and performance.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Power Engineering, or a related discipline, or equivalent relevant hands‑on experience.
- 3+ years of experience designing electrical or power systems, preferably involving mobile power, automotive, fleet, solar, generator, or industrial power applications.
- Strong knowledge of AC and DC power systems.
- Experience with battery technology, preferably lithium‑ion.
- Working knowledge of inverters, converters, charging systems, and power electronics.
- Experience creating and interpreting electrical schematics and wiring diagrams.
- Familiarity with electrical codes and safety standards applicable to mobile or vehicle power systems.
- Demonstrated hands‑on experience building, testing, troubleshooting, and improving physical electrical systems.
- Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills with a practical engineering mindset.
- Ability to collaborate effectively with mechanical, controls, manufacturing, production, and field‑service teams.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience in one or more of the following areas is highly desirable:
- Solar power systems
- Generator systems
- Mobile or auxiliary power units
- Battery Management Systems (BMS)
- Energy storage system design
- Vehicle‑integrated electrical or power systems
- Idle‑reduction technology
- Hybrid power systems
- AutoCAD Electrical or SolidWorks Electrical
A Professional Engineer (PE) license or progress toward licensure is a plus but is not required.
This is a hands‑on engineering position combining office/design responsibilities with shop and field work.
The Power Engineer should be comfortable working around vehicles, electrical equipment, prototypes, and production systems. Some travel will be required for installations, field testing, troubleshooting, and customer support. At times, travel may be required on short notice.
