Job summary

WSP USA is offering a Full‑Time Electrical Engineering (ESSP) Intern position in our Phoenix, AZ office, with consideration for San Diego, CA. Open to students currently enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate degree program as part of the 12‑week Summer Internship Program, beginning May 17, 2027.

The role involves assisting in electrical studies, SCADA systems development and troubleshooting for utility and industrial clients, and exposure to power systems including generation facilities,

Qualifications

• Actively enrolled in an accredited Electrical Engineering undergraduate program with anticipated graduation Aug 2027 or later.
• Must be 18 or older and legally authorized to work in the United States.
• Demonstrated interest in electrical engineering, consulting engineering, or electric utility industries.
• Strong interpersonal and professional communication for engineering/non-engineering audiences
• Ability to take direction from leadership and mentors to execute projects.
• Basic proficiency with technical writing, office software, and data tools

Responsibilities

• Support a variety of engineering tasks to develop technical, social, and ethical skills.
• Learn basic principles of Electrical Engineering.
• Assist with protective relaying including short-circuit analysis and relay settings.
• Support power system planning studies (power flow, voltage stability, simulations).
• Contribute to substation grounding, insulation coordination, and power quality analysis.
• Design and configure networking and communications for SCADA and protection, assist with on-site commissioning.
• Develop logic and control schemes for power system equipment, including programming and field testing.
• Prepare and program data acquisition systems and develop HMI screens; assist with data transfer commissioning.
• Complete training on assigned tasks.
• Adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct and safety policies.
